Title: Compulsion

December 28, 2006

Still feeling verbally challenged due to the ol' funk coloured glasses, but it will be getting better soon seeing as I started taking my meds again this week. Although the phrase "it's always darkest before the dawn" does apply being that the meds cause awful initial side effects so it's like having to go through hell in order to feel better. The anti-depressant causes nausea and the sweats and the insulin sensitizer causes what doctor's refer to as "gastrointestinal upset," but a more accurate description would be explosive bowl syndrome. Thankfully the side effects only last a week or two and you feel fine after that, but it's dismal in the meantime. I now feel like a sweaty, manic depressive hippo that's been put in a gastrointestinal half nelson, but I'm using that as inspiration to stay on my meds so that I don't have to go through this again.

So the countdown is on. The insulin sensitizer starts working quickly and has my glucose and insulin normalized in a week and, while the anti-depressant takes 4 weeks to reach maximum effect, I usually start noticing improvement after about ten days, which isn't that far away. So the light at the end of the tunnel is visible, albeit kind of blurry, but I'll keep heading towards it anyway and, with any luck, it won't turn out to be a train.
