Tonight the quest began...
UP vs BYU in the first round of the playoffs. UP won the game 2-1, complete with a glorious backheel goal from freshman striker Kendra Chandhoke. UP's Stephanie Lopez brought the ball down left side of the field towrds BYU's goal, crossed it to the inside, Kendra Chandhoke beat the BYU defenders to the ball but had her back to the goal, so she kicked backwards, launching the ball with the back of her heel into the goal. It's hard enough to score when you're facing the goal, but to score with your back to the goal... Truly magnificent!
So, UP won their first round playoff match (joy!) and now advance to the second round, where UP will play the University of Utah this Saturday at 4pm.
And for those who are interested - and I know so many people are - you can visit UP's web site to keep track of their playoff action, listen to games online, and the NCAA has the complete playoff brackets and results online as well...
Go ahead, you know you've always wanted to experience the mind boggling thrill and sheer ecstasy of being a soccer hooligan fan. <fiendish grin>
