As if shorter daylight hours and incessant rain weren't bad enough... UP tied their last regular season game, which cost them the West Coast Conference title. Going into today, UP and Santa Clara had identical records and were tied for first in the conference, but Santa Clara won their game today and UP only tied theirs, so Santa Clara won the conference. Suffice it to say that sucks big time, which is why I've spent the afternoon beating my head against the wall.
The NCAA playoff schedule and brackets won't be announced until Monday, so we'll have to wait and see how this factors into the playoffs. And even if UP do end up in a tough spot in the playoffs, there's still plenty of reason for hope. In 2002, UP was a lowly #8 seed in the playoffs and yet went on to become the lowest seed to ever win the championship. So there's still hope.
