Title: Compulsion

September 08, 2006

First University of Portland home game of the season. JOY! It was part of the Nike Invitational and UP were incredible, beating Baylor University 5-0, with a 23-3 advantage in shots, and Megan Rapinoe scored 3 goals in the first half. Woohoo!

Unfortunately, my camera didn't do well and every shot I took was blury. This has been happening all the time and I'm getting pissed. I got the camera in February so it shouldn't be having problems, but Ross said he'll apply his geek charm and see if he can get it to work right.

Hopefully the camera will work Sunday, since that's when UP play University of North Carolina. UNC have won 18 national championships and they are the Goliaths of womens college soccer. Everyone hates playing them, few teams ever beat them, and with UP being the defending national champions, UNC are out to take UP down in a major way. It's going to be one hell of a game and I'm already nervous. Technically, UP are the better, more talented team, but UNC plays with such extreme brute force that it's more like an assault than soccer, and in the match up of talent vs brute force, talent doesn't always win. It's going to be interesting, that's for sure.

UP and UNC Factoids

• UNC have won 18 ncaa national championships

• UP have won 2 ncaa national championships (2002 and 2005).

• UP and UNC are two of just three teams to ever win multiple national titles

• UP and UNC are the only two teams to ever win championships undefeated
