Went to Temple Square today, which is an area in downtown Salt Lake that is home to mormon landmarks like the Salt Lake Temple, Tabernacle, etc. We're not mormon or religious, but you don't have to be in order to be entertained by Temple Square. The gardens, architecture, history, and visitor center are interesting and well done and you can spend hours wandering around looking at it all. That, and no trip to SLC is complete without a visit to Temple Square.

After Temple Square, we continued doing the tourist thing, driving and walking around taking in the sights (more a walk down memory lane, since I went to college here). We did some shopping and got our friend Steve a Polygamy Porter t-shirt. Steve was raised mormon but is now an angsty ex-mormon, so he'll love the shirt. And, yes, there really is a Polygamy Porter beer, made by Wasatch Beers. After shopping, we drove up into the hills to check out the state capital and then hiked up to Ensign Peak to take in the view of the city and Wasatch mountains.

By evening we were tired and had worked up quite an appetite, so we went to The Pie Pizzeria by the University of Utah. The Pie is famous for its funky digs and great pizza and I went there a lot in college, so it was a lot of fun taking Ross there, especially since Ross -loves- pizza. The place hadn't changed a bit and it made for a very contented night, sitting there with Ross with the music blasting, reading the writing on the walls (you can write on the walls at The Pie), and munching on delicious pizza.

Once we'd stuffed ourselves full of pizza, we could barely keep our eyes open, so we went back to the hotel to crash. I brought my "herbal remedy" along on vacation and between that and all the stuff we're doing, my insomnia's been non-existant. I'm often asleep before Ross and I'm up bright and early in the morning, which has been sublime. Between all this time I'm getting to spend with Ross, always being out doing something fun, and actually sleeping, I'm a happy little camper.
