Title: Compulsion

This was it. The long awaited day. First Timbers homegame of the season, and I was psyched. I wasn't sure what to expect, what with the new coach and so many new players, but I was pleased with what I saw. The team obviously needs work, what with there being so many new players and the guys need time to get to know each other, but there definitely is a lot of talent and potential in the new roster and that was a relief.

And in a surprising and amusing turn of events, it turns out that Jesus is now playing for the Timbers. Well, the guy's name is actually Alejandro Gutierrez but, from a distance, he kind of looks like Jesus, what with his long hair and all, and since he's new and a lot of fans didn't know his name, people started referring to him as Jesus. I'm sure religious folks wouldn't be amused by that, but I ended up chuckling through the entire game because the guys behind us kept yelling, "pass the ball to Jesus!" Unfortunately, Jesus didn't score tonight, but Jesus is really speedy and aggressive, so I'm sure he'll get plenty of scoring action during the season. And, as a non-religious type, I never thought I'd be saying this, much less screaming it in public, but GO JESUS!

So, the new season is underway and I'm totally euphoric because of it. Anti-depressants may not work well for me, but soccer certainly does, especially now that we have our very own diety on the team. Now if only Jesus and the rest of his disciples could figure out how to win a few games (one loss and one tie so far), all would be good. You wouldn't think that scoring against Vancouver would be harder than turning water into wine, but hopefully Jesus and the gang will have better luck against MinniSoda tomorrow night.
