Title: Compulsion

November 18, 2005

The University of Portland beat Arizona 4-0 tonight in the 3rd round of the playoffs and, thanks to a scalper on craigslist, we were able to get tickets to the sold out game. Had to pay $$$ for them, but it was -so- worth it.

UP was absolutely amazing, to the extent that even non-soccer fans were gushing about them. As one sports writer put it, "I am far from a soccer aficionado, but you don't have to be able to paint to admire a Picasso." UP was that good tonight. They played the kind of game that gives you chills and epitomizes why soccer is called "the beautiful game."

Now, in the quarterfinals, UP has to play the reigning national champions, which also happens to be the team that eliminated UP from the quarterfinal last year - Notre Dame. Oh, is there ever a score to be settled. It's been a year since Notre Dame knocked UP out of the 2004 quarterfinals and, as the old saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold. Muwahaha!
