Fourteen years ago today, my beautiful niece came speeding into the world. It was a blistering July day and my super smurf sister (she's 4' 10") managed to have her first child sans doctor, hospital or pain meds in less than 6 hours. Even more remarkable was that, just an hour after delivery, my sister and her husband took Bayley home, where my sister proceeded to make dinner for everyone that was coming over to see the new baby.

As my sister ran around, serving drinks and food, my dad and I followed her, trying to help and begging her to sit down and rest. "You just gave birth!" my dad kept saying, but my sister brushed it off, said she felt great, and proceeded to make Martha Stewart look like a slacker. I finally gave up trying to help and spent the rest of the time holding Bayley, telling her I loved her more than life itself, even if her mom was insane.

It was a great day, one of the best of my life, and I do love Bayley (and my nutty sister!) more than life itself. The truest love, purest joy and most heartfelt happiness I have ever known have come from being an aunt, and I thank Bayley for that. Happy birthday, sweetie!
