Title: Compulsion

July 16, 2005

Still battling it out with my cold, making it over a week that I've had this damn thing. I'd hoped that a summer cold might mean it was less severe or shorter in duration, but so much for that. Turns out a summer cold is just as sucky as the kind you get in winter.

Ross has an odd theory that if I rested and took care of myself when I get sick, I'd get better faster, but doing so would entail having some common sense, of which I have none. That explains why, when Ross gets sick, he spends the time in bed with me feeding him soup, whereas when I get sick, it's a demented version of animal kingdom, with me incoherently running round swearing that I'm not sick, while Ross chases me with a jug of orange juice. Still not sure if he wants me to drink the juice or trying to hit me over the head with the jug, in hopes of getting me to rest.

Bo kindly suggested that I try Cold-Eeze zinc lozenges. According to Bo (and Bo knows!) they halt the reproductive cycle of the rhinovirus and are fast and effective. The Cold Eeze site also has a common cold forecast, where you enter your zip code and find out the prevalence of the cold in your area. Portland currently rates moderate, 8% to 14% of the city has a cold, which is higher than I thought it would be in July. Now if only it listed the names and addresses of the infected, because I'd really like to pay a special visit to whoever game me this damn thing. Grumble.
