Title: Compulsion

July 06, 2005

Broke down and got a new pedometer. I've gone through 3 already. The damn things aren't very sturdy, you look at them wrong and they break, which is why I've gone through so many. I have a tendency to drop them. Turns out they don't bounce, nor do they work well after not bouncing.

I was tempted to get an expensive GPS pedometer, I've always wanted one of those, since they're more accurate, but I figured that would be a waste of money, what with the fact I'd probably break it in two weeks. So I got the cheap kind and, surprisingly, it works great. It's the cheapest one I've gotten ($8), and it works better than all the others.

I feel 100 times more inspired on my walks now that I have a pedometer again. Knowing how many minutes I've walked isn't inspiring to me, but knowing my milage and calories burned is major motivation and ensures I get a decent workout. In order for walking to be good exercise, you need to do miles in 15 min or less, and I'm doing that, but I'd like to improve it.

This is part of my effort to get more serious about my health and weight loss effort. I've been slacking on that for months, and the proof of that is apparent in how I feel and the weight I've gained back. It really sucks to accomplish something like losing 30 pounds, only to backslide on it, so I'm trying to get things under control and moving in the right direction again.
