Title: Compulsion

June 22, 2005

Puffer FishySeems I'll have to exercise every day for my entire life if I don't want to turn into a dirigible.

I take a few days off from exercise and what happens? I get sick. Not a cold or flu, but simply in that my body decided to throw a conniption fit over the lack of exercise. Initially I didn't think a few exercise-free nights could be what caused me to feel like I drank a bottle of draino or what made me swell up like a puffer fish, to the extent I feared I might explode, but one night back walking and the sick, bloated feeling is gone.

Kind of odd that an hour of sweating and panting can make you feel so good, especially when it doesn't involve being naked, but I can't help but wonder what I've gotten myself into. Before I started daily exercise, I didn't feel sick without it, but now if I miss just a few days, my body goes on strike and nearly falls apart.

This is a fine kettle of puffer fish I've gotten myself into. I've become addicted to exercise and now I have to do this healthy, taking care of myself crap the rest of my life. Unless, of course, a drug is created that helps people kick the exercise habit, but I doubt we're going to see a pill that weans people off exercise and turns them into couch potatoes.

Yeah, I should have known better. The first walk's always free...
