Title: Compulsion

June 19, 2005

Portland RainbowsOne of the weirdest weather days I've seen. Sunny, warm day, but the wind kicked in in the evening, blowing in greenish clouds ('puke green tornado sky' someone else called it). At sunset, however, the clouds and sky turned a vivid pink and two rainbows appeared, side by side, arcing over the city.

Ross and I were on the Freemont bridge at the time, and the sight of the rainbows against the pink sky was so stunning that we (and many others) pulled over to the side of the bridge to take photos. As we sat taking pictures, lightning started crackling across the sky, with the bolts looking like they were shooting through the rainbows, making one of the most incredible views of the skyline I've ever seen.

The storm continued into the night, with thunder, lightning and a massive downpour of rain as the grand finale. Come the end of it, it felt like we'd morphed through all four seasons in one day - summer's sun and warmth, autumn and winter's storminess, and spring's deluge of rain. But I guess that's fitting since the weather this month has been anything but typical, to the extent that a local newscaster jokingly referred to this as Juneuary.

As for the photos, they turned out bleh (grainy, poor color), since all we had was a cell phone camera. Of course, that should be a motivation to carry my digital camera with me, but the damn cell phone's so much more convenient. My digital camera, after all, weighs a massive 6.5 oz, but the phone only weighs 3 oz. Don't want to strain myself or anything.
