Title: Compulsion

June 09, 2005   Our friend Ringo had the grand opening of his store, Bridge City Comics, tonight, which was quite the shindig. The opening was mentioned in local papers and coincided with N. Portland's 2nd Thursday Music Walk, so there was great turn out and the store was packed, which was wonderful.

It's been amazing to see the store go from just an idea Ringo had to an actual reality, and he's done an incredible job with the whole thing. He's never done anything like this before (ie open a business) and I'm in total awe of what he's accomplished. This isn't your typical hole in the wall comic store that caters soley to geeks. This is a hip, classy store with a wide variety of comics, graphic novels, original artwork, etc and I'm always a bit astonished when I see the place. It went from an idea to an amazing reality so fast and so well, and Ringo is the mastermind of it all.

Of course, this does make me think that I should get some friends who aren't so smart, talented, and driven, so that I don't feel so schleppy and unaccomplished in comparison. I mean, when your friends blatantly prove that it is possible to achieve your dreams and be a smashing success, it makes you wonder what you could accomplish if you actually tried and that maybe you should to stop sitting around whinning about how much life sucks and instead get off your ass and do something.

So congratulations to Ringo on the success of his store, a place that not only offers comic books, but existential inspiration as well. And how many comic book stores can you say that about?!?!
