Title: Compulsion

June 03, 2005   Holy crap! The Timbers lost -big time-! They played Rochester, one of the worst teams in the USL, and lost 3-1. By half time it was already 3-0!

Thankfully a loss of this type is such a fluke that it's not very depressing, and it's kind of a relief to get the first loss of the season out of the way. It was bound to happen and I felt like I was holding my breath waiting for it, so now it's done and over with. That, and I'm hoping this is an inspiration for the boys. With all the ties, they weren't winning or losing, and that's not very motivating, so maybe this will kick things into gear for them.

So, first mark in the loss column, and it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be. Now the concern is the Timbers' long road trip, traveling over 10000 miles to play four games in three different countries, which won't be easy. Although I'm not sure who it's harder on - the Timbers who have to play on the road, or the fans who have to go without home games.

It is great, though, that Timbers broadcaster Andy McNamara is keeping a blog as he travels with the team. I love the fact that it's not just game commentary, but a more personal perspective on the team, etc. That, and it helps to fill the home game void.

Twelve days and counting until the next game in Portland...
